Laid in is an Autograph Letter, signed, of about 180 words, undated and written in pencil, from the author to Laurence Whistler who had reviewed the author's Cage & Wing in the T.L.S.: ''...I do not know all of your work but we printed four from you in Poems of This War... If ever you are in Cambridge I hope you will come & find me at the University Press. It will make an event in days that go steadily by; and Cambridge is a good town to visit if it is not raining...''. With the pencilled ownership signature of Laurence Whistler on the half-title. Covers a little marked and faded at edges. The A.L.S. is in excellent state. Very good.

Hand-printed by the author's son Nicholas and with an illustration by the author.Number 54 of 75 copies signed by the author. The recipient is his friend Alan Hancox, the antiquarian bookseller who directed the Cheltenham Literature Festival during the 1980's. Under his guidance it grew sevenfold.A bit of faint creasing.
