Black four-flap case with label on front cover houses all items, in fine condition. 30 loose sheets with black frame, Edward Gorey's embossed signature on title and colophon cards, in fine condition. In 2013, the golden anniversary of the publication of The Gashlybrumb Tinies arrived. This is Edward Gorey's most iconic (appalling) alphabet book and most likely his best known work. It has never been out of print. Gorey House issued, as separate plates, the 26 Tinies and the original cover image, each suitable for framing. Images are printed in their original size of 5 x 6" on 8 x 10" art paper. Enclosed with the plates is an attractive portfolio and an a celebratory title card and colophon card giving the details of this particular edition. Green stiff paper covers with printed and designed title lable pasted down on front cover, stitched binding, set by hand, printed, & bound at High Loft by August Heckscher, with T.R. Coleman and Karen MacDonald (from the colophon), slight foxing on a few pages and page edges, in near fine conditon. August Heckscher II (1913 - 1997) was an American author, correspondent, speech writer and biographer as well as an arts consultant in the White House during John F. Kennedy's administration. He was also a NY parks commisioner among other things during his diverse career. He wrote a well-known biography of Woodrow Wilson. This sweet little pamphlet tells a more personal story of how some places can "speak distinctly" and provoke certain feeling and storytelling. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832) was a German writer and statesman. His writings were diverse and included poetry, prose, dramas, memoirs, criticisms, treatises on some sciences, letters, and an autobiography. A friend to the Duke of Save-Weimar, Goethe went to live in Weimar where he met Charlotte von Stein in 1776. She was an older, married woman but they had an intimate bond which lasted for ten years. Red simulated leather over boards with gilt decorations, some dulling to gilt, minor cover rubbing especially to spine edges, original signed etching as frontispiece, 5 color plates and 14 black and white plates with some tissue guards missing, a few pages unopened, gift inscription on front paste-down endpaper which also has a small amount of foxing, otherwise in very good condition. Roland Clark (1874 - 1957) was an American artist who was best known for his painting and etchings of ducks. He was also an accomplished writer and combined these talents in sporting articles, short stories which were autobiographical in nature.
