The paste-downs are both a little wrinkled, and the cover edges and hinges are worn, but the cover and spinal gilt are still very bright. The rear cover is a little discolored (see pictures). The final numbered page (543) and the following blank leaf are separated from the rest of the pages at the top 2" or so but in no danger of falling out. The first 147 pages comprise Gargantua, and the rest of the volume is three books of Pantagruel. (57639) . Good. Hardcover.

NY: G.P. Putnam's Sons. 1981. 411pp. This book is one of a limited edition of 750 copies, all numbered (this is #305) and signed by the author. Issued without a d.j., in black cloth inside a protective box, also clad in black cloth. The book is nearly pristine, with a few tiny brown spots on the page edges. The backstrip gilt is bright and clean; the binding is solid; the pages are unmarked. The box is solid, with a small spot on the lower cover and a small area of oddly-cut cloth. Another small area of loosening cloth on the box has been professionally repaired so well that you probably can't tell where it was.
