Book is near fine, minor shelwear only, no bumps to the fragile boards. Book is still in the original clear-plastic wrap which is now chipped in a couple of spots. Nice square book.

New York: Paul Verlaine Society, 1929. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good+. One of 49 copies bound with a print signed by Mahlon Blaine. Period bookplate, contents otherwise fine. Boards are VG+ -- tight and clean but a small (1/2 inch) worn spot on the bottom edge of one board. Nice book.

Paris: Edite par Devambez, 1918. First Edition. Paperback. Very good. Large quarto, 37, [1] pages. With vignette on title, and 14 illustrations, plus a tailpiece, all coloured by the pochoir process. Number 37 of an edition of 325. Some chips to the plain-paper spine, a coffee stain on the back blank (does not touch contents or text), else very good, free of all markings. Printed on Arches paper, a nice piece of pochoir printing.

Tokyo: Privately Printed, 1965. first edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/near fine. The earliest sample here is of Japanese paper from the year 730 and the earliest printed fragment is from a book printed at the Kyoto Monastery in 1349. Many of the papers were made in the Nara, Heian, Kamakura, Muromachi, and Edo periods. The paper samples are arranged chronologically. Also includes samples of palmleaf paper, papyrus stalk, etc. Each samples identified in both Japanese and English under the sample. 181 samples, all present. The second volume is a beautifully illustrated history of papermaking. Both volumes in the traditional Japanese string bindings with paper labels over beautiful hand-made paper covers. Both volumes fine. Set comes in a blue folding cloth folder (near fine) with traditional clasps. This set sold new in Tokyo in 1965 for $400 (about $3000 today). A great book about paper. Contents completely clean and fresh. Full black cloth matchng solander slipcase with a very small corner bump on the top right corner of the top board (ie. not visible on the shelf), does not affect contents, otherwise only minor shelf wear. Beautiful book.

London: Hutchinson, 1920. First Edition. Hardcover. VG+. A nice copy -- small period gift inscription to the front blank, and faint spotting on the title page, contents otherwise very clean. Binding is tight and without splits or chips, spine lettering naturally darkened. Very good or better. This is the first edition with nice thick paper.

You are buying this book for the incredible print by Yoshida. "Fine"here refers to the print, not the book. And a very wonderful print it is.
