Description:
s.l.n.d. (c. 1830). Full red morocco, boards superbly decorated with Restauration label, double golden fillets framing, golden edges, blue inside cover and endpapers, and ornamented spine with fake gilt (contemporay binding, partially-torn hinge) Charming original manuscript of poems written by an anonymous woman in hommage to the Marquis Charles de Forbin-Janson (1783-1849), who became Napoleon's chamberlain in 1813. This admirer of the Marquis was an avid reader of Lamartine and Byron, to whom she frequently refers throughout the volume. Notably, one poem is entitled "Souvenirs de Marseille, du Rocher N.D. de la Garde". Beautiful copy in charming contemporary binding.
