The dark blue covers are in very good plus condition, there is one scuff mark on the back of Vol. I and also one on the front of Vol.II. On each volume, the title and publisher are embossed on the front cover and the title is in gold on the spine. The bindings are solid. Each volume contains marbled endpapers and all page-edges are dark blue as published. The interior of each book is in near fine condition. The pages are clean and bright and there is no writing or markings detected. Each book includes numerous black/white illustrations that are drawings of technique and apparatus of the period along with several data tables. Houghton Mifflin Co., Riverside Press. Boston, New York. 1995. First Edition, date on title page. 2 volumes; Vol. I: xiii 544 pages; Vol. II: 570 pp. The red covers are in very good plus condition. There is no noticeable bumping on the edges. There is a faint line on the front of Volume I and three small spots with very mild color loss on Vol. II. The author and title are in bright gilt on the spine of both volumes. The bindings are solid. The tan dust jackets of both volumes are frayed along the edges with a couple of small chips in them. They are sunned/faded in spots, most noticeably on the spines. The jacket of volume II also has a couple of small spots on the front. The interior of both volumes is in very good plus to near fine condition. All pages are clean and bright with no writing. The only blemish detected on the interior is a couple of small spots on the inside of the front cover of Vol II.
