Brown calf entirely strewn with fleurs-de-lys, three old-style gilt fillets framing the covers, gilt coat of arms in the center, gilt fillet running along the edges, all edges gilt with the great coat of arms of Louis XIII, King of France & Navarre: crowned coupled shields, accompanied by the crowned royal cipher "L", and surrounded by the collars of the king's orders. Full tan morocco box.
Double royal provenance :
A copy bearing the royal coat of arms [Louis XIII], and and an exceptional handwritten dedication by the author, Pierre Coton, to Anne of Austria, Queen of France.
It also bears the handwritten bookplate of Henriette de France (1609-1669), daughter of Henri IV and heiress to Queen Anne.
