Description:
[ Bloomington, IN ]: Lilly Library, 1964. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo, 62 pages, pictorial blue cloth Randall was uniquely qualified to write this history, both as the Director of the Lilly Library, and formerly as Head of the Scribner Rare Book Department, which supplied Lilly with numerous acquisitions. Relates the care and feeding of a collector. Also, includes a facsimile of the 1830 " The Musiad or Ninean. A Poem, by Diabolus." Exceedingly rare, the poem has been suggested to have been authored by Poe; but, if not the poem, then more likely the Editor's Preface, reproduced herein. Tipped-in portrait frontispiece of Poe from the Lilly Collection.

A compelling biography based in previously unpublished letters, documents and photographs ( many taken by Barrie himself). Normal, IL: Pilot Rock Press, ( 1978 ). First Edition. Flexible covers. Fine. Quarto, unpaginated [2] pages. Rare. No copy cited by WorldCat. Here is a poem, " Jerry's Rocks" a small piece of letter press & an engraving on copper. Issued by the Pilot Rock Press, the private press of Fred Brian. Fred Brian was a relentless printmaker and printer, and taught printmaking and painting and art history at Illinois Wesleyan University. The copperplate is strong, and signed and dated by Fred Brian. The final verse is, "Boots flooded from the leaking hull, / this whole backlashing scene begets a curse. / No need to lie about your luck out here - / so little and so much; / the walley nails the plug against your wrist / and pays off in its fury."
