Letter to a gentleman. in full: "The Grand Jury has formed a bill against Domingo Joseph Dos Santos for being concerned in fitting out the brig San Nicholas as a slaver." Matted and framed with a portrait of Cooper to an overall size of 10.5"x14.5". In fine condition. Includes JSA Letter Of Authenticity. In 1836, charges were brought against Dos Santos and associates for equipping and loading the Brig San Nicholas (a suspected pirate brig) as a slave-trading vessel, intending to travel to Africa and procure '50 negroes, 50 mulattos, and 50 persons of color for the purpose of selling them as slaves in the United States; Cooper served as the foreman of the grand jury..
