Israel Jacob "Jack" Solomons OBE (10 December 1900 – 9 December 1979) was a British boxing promoter who has been called "one of the greatest boxing promoters in history" and "England's greatest boxing impresario". Solomons was born in Petticoat Lane in the East End of London. He began promoting boxing in London during the 1930s. He took over operations at the Devonshire Club in Hackney, but that club was destroyed in the bombing of 1940. Woodcut vignette to title. Somewhat browned and worn at edges. Rare. A humorous poem in which Jack is granted three wishes whereby he gets a bow, a musical pipe and revenge on his hated step-mother "Whene'er she stares upon me so, Thinking to keep me under; I wish her Bum might then let go, And crack like roaring Thunder".....

Issued as plate 286 in the collection "Raccolta di 324 Ritratti di Artisti Eccellenti" depicting self-portraits of artists copied from the the paintings now lining the Vasari Corridor in the Uffizi.

For the Great Exhibition in 1851 John Tallis (1817-1876) worked with engraver John Rapkin (1815-1876) to publish the 'Illustrated World Atlas', whose maps were later re-issued by the London Printing and Publishing Company. Their maps are prized for their wonderful steel-engraved vignettes showing the peoples, customs, architecture, landmarks, flora, and fauna of each country.

Publisher's black cloth (primary binding- also issued as a red cloth hardback), in glossy dust-wrapper. A fine copy. Rather scarce. Literary version of the sixteenth official film featuring Ian Fleming's James Bond.

Original large lithographed map (150.5 x 128.5 cm) annotated with a route into the Himalayas, dissected into 80 sections and backed onto linen, title to top right, inset plan to bottom left of 'Srinagar or city of Kashmir and environs', printed label of Edward Stanford 'wholesale & retail mapseller' of Charing Cross pasted at foot printed advertisements on yellow paper for 'Stanford's Maps' and 'Stanford's Atlases' visible to front and back when folded. Lithographed by 'J. & C. Walker lith.' A little foxing, some pin holes at head, ink note at head and route drawn out in red ink (see below), lower quadrant a bit more toned than the others, generally a very good example. A scarce large scale map of Jammu and Kashmir in northern India by Thomas George Montgomerie (1830 1878), executed as part of the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India under the superintendence of Sir Andrew Scott Waugh (1810 1878). Napoli [Naples]: Presso Francesco Ricciardo, 1738.. 8vo. (17.5 x 11 cm). pp.343+[6, table]+final blank. Contemporary vellum, manuscript title to spine. Engraved title, 4 engraved folding plates, and 2 folding engraved maps by Tirion (Japan and South East Asia including the Philippines, parts of Indonesia, and Java). Old ownership inscription to title-page. Slightly foxed throughout. Thomas Salmon (bap. 1679, d. 1767), historian and travel writer best known his encyclopaedic work the Modern History, or, The Present State of All Nations, which appeared in thirty-one volumes between 1724 and 1738. Described as 'an ambitious synthesis of travel literature and world history' (Okie, 101), it expressed an appreciation of foreign cultures and rejected travellers' tales of giants and sea-monsters, at the same time criticising the Whig government for not expanding the overseas empire.
