[8], 151pp, [1], rebound in later half-morocco and marbled paper over boards, raised bands, spine in five panels, flower device to first and fifth panels, title to second, author to fourth, with repeated flower head pattern to larger third panel, date to foot, t.e.g., marbled endpapers. Slightly rubbed to extremities, internally lightly browned with occasional light foxing to margins and fore-edge of text block, damp stain to bottom third of page throughout with associated crinkling and light browning. Three volumes complete - Volume One - [3]-vi, [3], 2-400pp; Volume Two - [5], 2-406pp; and Volume Three - [5], 2-404pp. Contemporary half calf and marbled paper over boards, raised bands, spines in five panels, title label to second panel, volume label to fourth. Very slightly rubbed to extremities, otherwise externally very good. Internally some light foxing to portraits, endpapers, and occasionally to text, especially to the first volume, but generally fairly clean. With portrait frontispieces to each volume, and another two portraits to third volume, bound without half-titles. Book plate of Horatio Noble Pym to front pastedowns. Now housed in a leather entry slipcase. The first edition of Mackay's extraordinarily popular work on human delusions, which included economic bubbles (South Sea bubble, Mississippi Company bubble, and tulip mania), alchemy, prophecies, thievery, beards, duelling, and price riots. Edinburgh: Thomas Clark, 1834. Two volumes complete - Volume One - x, [2], 656pp and Volume Two - [4], 422pp. Contemporary full morocco, semi-raised bands, spines in five panels, title in gilt to second panel, author / volume to fourth, remaining panels with triple fillet bordering a drawer handle frame, covers with an attractive frame made up of leafy stems and flowers, a.e.g. Slightly rubbed and bumped to extremities, spines slightly faded, corners bumped. Internally volume one has a stain to fore edge throughout, occasionally creeping on to the fore edge border of the pages. Light stain to front pastedowns where a bookplate has been removed. Probably bound by Inglaton of Eton, with his ticket to front pastedown of volume one (See Ramsden page 95, where he is described as 'maybe a binder and/or a bookseller'), there are two bindings by Ingalton in Spawn and Kinsella. First Edition. Full Morocco. Good. 8vo.

Original blue-green cloth, title, author and publisher in gilt to spine with publisher's circular blind stamp to centre of covers, orange endpapers. Rebacked, with original back strip laid down, gilt to spine has largely been retouched (ie. bands to head, title, and author). Back strip lightly stained. Internally lightly browned and lightly foxed throughout, but nothing too obtrusive. Housed in a very good morocco backed drop back box, made by Asprey & Garrard. London: Wm. S. Orr & Co., 1849. [38]p, additional lithographic title and twenty-one tissue guarded tinted lithographic plates. Original cloth, gilt roll border to covers, upper cover with title in gilt to centre, primrose endpapers. Repaired to spine ends, slightly rubbed, otherwise externally quite bright and clean. Light foxing to reverse of plates, each plate has a small half circle of light water staining to top margin with some minor spotting, but generally internally quite bright and clean. Previous owners bookplate of Thomas Somers Vernon Cocks to front pastedown. The siege of Multan (Mooltan) lasted between 19th April 1848, when a rebellion in the city against a ruler imposed by the East India Company precipitated the Second Anglo-Sikh War, and 22 January 1849, when the last defenders surrendered (Wikipedia).
