Journal binding measuring 7.5 x 5", containing lined paper, of which 82 pages are filled in ink manuscript with recipes, several dated in April, 1910, and/or headed "Domestic Science" or "Domestic Science Cookery". Inscribed on rear cover verso "Genevieve Leyba Santa Fe N.M. Indian School." A manuscript cookbook kept by a young woman at the Santa Fe Indian School in New Mexico. According to the 1910 census, the compiler, Genevieve (or Genoveva) Leyba, was born in 1891, and grew up in El Rito, Mora County, New Mexico, together with her siblings and parents Juan and Efimenia, whose native tongue was Spanish. Her occupation, as well as that of her sister, Agafata Leyba, is listed as "Government School."
