From the back of the book: "This wonderful old teaching manual has been out of print for nearly a century. Still very relevant for sailing vessels, it has chapters on signals, boat work, bends and hitches, knots and spicing, rope making, anchor work, compass and helm, rigging, etc. Of the 392 pages, two thirds are devoted to sailing vessels and the balance to steam vessels or subjects common to both, such as sheer and derrick work, storage, etc. It is as relevant today for training sailors as it was in 1904."

Description:
2nd printing. From the Foreword by Walter Parks: "Rarely do we see an artistic movement expanding and flowering before our eyes. Usually, the prime period of an art movement which we admire happened in the past or, if in our own era, was over before we recognized it. The ceramic art spilling out of the plains of northern Chihuahua moves today through its prime period, and we can watch it happen. Juan Quezada, the originator and prime mover, continues to experiment and innovate. Dozens of potters pride themselves on following his general style, and dozens more measure their success against how far they can depart from his style and still produce creditble work. This book tells their story."

Description:
From the d.j. flap: "Sarah Brown, the vibrant, talented daughter of abolitionist John Brown, finds her life forever altered when she stumbles across her father's work on the Underground Railroad. Although reeling from the shocking news that she won't ever bear children, Sarah realizes that her artistic talents may be able to help save the lives of slaves fleeing north. Taking cues from slave-code quilts, Sarah hides maps within her paintings, becoming one of the Underground Railroad's leading mapmakers."
"Over one hundred and fifty years later, Eden Anderson, a modern-day woman struggling to conceive a child, moves to an old house in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., as a last-ditch effort to save her marriage and start a family. There, she discovers a porcelain doll head hidden in the root cellar--the remains of an Underground Railroad doll with an extraordinary past of secret messages, danger, and deliverance."

From the back cover: "Following the path first charted by "The Mapmaker's Eye", in which Joan Dawson examines the development of early Nova Scotia through maps, The Mapmakers' Legacy carries on, plotting the province's growth through the careful examination and analysis of maps from the nineteenth century. An exciting time in Nova Scotia's history, the nineteenth century saw the first serious attempts to gain knowledge of the entire province, the resources and its inhabitants."

Description:
From the d.j. front flap: "Mary Poppins is her own astringent self in any language, and as Maria Poppina, parading primly through the twenty-six alphabetical episodes of this Latin adaptation of "Mary Poppins from A to Z, she demonstrates again that her power is undiminished. With her accustomed aplomb she reprimands and restrains the inhabitants of the Banks House--domus Banci--at Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane and all who cross their paths, as she has done since she first appeared with the East Wind."
"G. M. Lyne's scholarly translation, skillfully adapted to the demands of the ancient language, sacrifices none of the incomparable wit and charm of the original. The illustrations, though in a different color scheme, are the same ones that delight readers of the English-language edition."
There are some "raised bumps" on the front and rear boards. I'm not sure if these were there from the beginning or if it was a moisture problem at some point. There is no odor and they do not affect the endpapers.
