Description:
Cranium Press, San Francisco, 1972. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Very Good. A notable association copy, inscribed to McClure s friend and sometimes editor-publisher Jack Shoemaker, a legend in the independent press world who has stuck with the Beats (in particular, Gary Snyder) from start to finish. "This copy for Jack Michael," it reads, on the title page. As the editor of Sand Dollar Books, Shoemaker published McClure s The Book of Joanna and Hail Thee Who Play. As editor of North Point Press, he published McClure s widely read memoir Scratching the Beat Surface. This book is a collection of plays that read just as well as poetry ("projective verse turned to theater"). It's in very good condition, with a clean interior but some wear and scuffing to cover, as is normal for this title. The cover also has the unobtrusive imprint of a swirling pen, which is only visible in reflective light, and some minor creasing along spine. Still very good, and a compelling association. Please inquire for photos.

Yet the land, sky, and intertidal areas that Mary Parker Buckles explores . . . have remained virtually uncelebrated until now." See the New York Times review.  Buckles had written several guidebooks to animals, but this is her first and primary work for a lay audience in the tradition of other tidal explorers like Rachel Carson. Inscribed on the title page in the year of publication: "For Judy, with my thanks for a fine day (and signed to prove my hand still works!). Bill McKibben, June 2, 1998." Maybe he was doing some hard restoration work; or maybe he just signed a lot of books. In any case, uncommon signed. McKibben's foray into the controversial (over)population debate. A very near fine book with a minor bump to lower text block corner, impacting the outermost tip of about 40 pages; also a touch of binders glue showing where the paper turns to cloth on the front board. In a near fine jacket with a scrape on left side where it looks like a price sticker was peeled. Minor imperfections.

Description:
Ashland, WI: Sigurd Olson Institute, 1978. First edition. Softcover. An uncommon staple-bound chapbook in mustard wraps consisting of Sigurd Olson's 1958 address "The Meaning of Wilderness," given to the Utah Academy of Sciences in Provo. We are not sure if this address was collected before it appeared as the title essay of a 2001 collection (reissued in 2015). This booklet was produced in 1978 (it would appear) by the Sigurd Olson Institute at Northland College "as a gift for its friends." With three illustrations by Deb Bartl, Nina Forsythe, and Diana Tesoriere (a particularly funky pinecone drawing by Deb on the rear). 16 pages total plus wraps. Very good with a coffee spot at the top edge and sporadic creasing. Likely a scarce piece of Olson ephemera with none listed in OCLC/WorldCat.
