Description:
William Morrow & Co, New York, 1947. Edition Unstated. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Lynd Ward. Book The copyright notice only lists the 1947 publication date, but the price on the dust jacket is $4.50 rather than the $2.50 which seems to have been the price for the first printing. From the blurb on the front flap: "In the minds of some people the history of Negro Americans begins with chained men in slave ships and ends with field hands in the South or Pullman porters in the North. The important role, sometimes tragic, often heroic, played by Negroes in our history is omitted. The great contributions being made by Negro men and women today are ignored. Mrs. Swift's sensitive words and Lynd Ward's dramatic paintings, illustrating each page of text, create in 'North Star Shining' the whole picture. . . . Here are Negro heroes of World War II. To one of them, Captain Clarence W. Griggs, killed in action on Okinawa, this book is dedicated." This book includes…

Text block is bright and unmarked but shaken. The binding is cracked between pp. 378-379 and pp. 682-683, exposing the webbing. Has the misprint point for a first printing: Pape for Papa on p. 430, line 20. VG hardcover in green cloth over boards with portrait decoration embossed on the front cover and bright gilt title and decordation on the spine. Tips show shelf wear with the bottom tip of the first cover worn to the board. Front and rear pastedowns have some browning from the glue along the gutter edges. This first printing copy at some point was married to an early (1937) dust jacket (front flap code 899-37). The unclipped jacket ($2.75) has some edge loss at the head and foot of the spine (not affectng any text) and a tide mark at the bottom fold edge of the front flap. It is now protected in a clear archival…

Description:
Gideon Grawfurd, Edinburgh, 1749, 1748. Second Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition. Book Size: 6"-7" - Sextodecimo (16mo). 226 pages. Item Type: Book. The text block is tight. The pages are lightly tanned, but remain bright and without any foxing and only minimal scattered spotting. However, any blank leaves are missing, so the block begins with the title page and ends with the final page of text. As a result, the first and last pages are heavily browned around the edges where they have been exposed to the glue from the inside covers. Bound in calf over boards. The leather is heavily worn, particularly at the corners where the boards are showing through. The spine has six compartments, but is missing the label for the title. The hinges are heavily worn with a 2 1/2" split at the head of the front hinge (though the cords are holding) and 3/8" at the head of the rear hinge. The end papers and blank leaves are missing from the front and rear, exposing the…
