A ms note on the wrapper states that this paper does not appear in the Proceedings of the Society and was published as a separate pamphlet. Loosely inserted is a letter dated 1941 from George McMurtrie to the mineralogist [Sir] Arthur Russell with references to his father's work and to current ARP duties. Not traced in COPAC, but there is a copy in Somerset Libraries.

Plymouth-Dock, Printed and sold by Congdon and Hearle, 1813.. 1813 8vo. [2], 30, [2] p. Modern wrappers. Minor worm to inner margin, not affecting text. Title with an old inkstain, blank margin at foot of p.11 dusty with a short tear, otherwise very good. The Author worked in the Dockyard. He promotes the use of copper fixings instead of treenails and the use of covered slips instead of open docks for the preservation of ships from rot.

Engraved architectural title page to Vol. I., some illustrations, music and historiated initials in the text. Old dampstains at the front of Vol. I. A good sound set of the first collected edition of Bede's works. In the autobiographical account appended to his Historia Ecclesiastica Gentis Anglorum Bede lists over thirty of his written works. It omits some of Bede's writings and includes a Commentary on St. Paul which is not by Bede. PBFA

Publisher's red quarter roan with marbled sides, rubbed but sound. The contents clean and tight. Originally published c. 1820, this Richardson edition can be dated from its distribution by Hurst, Chance & Compy, all twenty of whose imprints in the BL Catalogue are dated 1825-30.

Mottled calf panelled in in blind and gilt rolls. The spine with three wide bands, tooled in the panels in blind and gilt and lettered on the middle band. One gathering has moved forward, otherwise a very good copy. Hoole was a friend of Samuel Johnson who he attended in his last illness. He was among those to whom Johnson bequeathed books.
