Robert Gamblin founded the Portland-based Gamblin Artists Colors in 1980. He grew up in Portland, earned his BS in Fine Art at the University of Oregon in 1970, and continued his studies at the San Francisco Art Institute, 1971-72. In 2017, he received a lifetime achievement award from the National Art Materials Trade Association.

Peking: Distributed by Gouzi Shudian, 1956. Hardcover. Very Good. 19 paper cuts produced by folk artists of Guangdong and Fujian Provinces, China, accompanied by short introductions in Chinese, English, French and German. Presented in a portfolio box with traditional bone-fastenings. Rare. One later edition located on OCLC (State Library of South Australia). The pieces, mounted on thin card-stock, are done on paper with incised patterns, both delicate and elegant in appearance. Paper-cuts of this sort originated from paper moulds used to imprint pictures on lacquer ware. Some of the works in this collection originate from the city of Chaozhou.

Detailed account of the third Paris World's Fair (the 1878 Exposition Universelle) and descriptions of travels in Belgium, Germany, on the Rhine, across the Swiss Alps, in Italy and the Tyro. Concludes with fifty pages of illustrated advertisements for manufacturers who presented at the exposition. The author, Henry Morford (1823-1881), was a New York City novelist, playwright, and journalist. In 1876, he opened a bookstore that specialized in travel literature.

The book being sold to subscriber's was essentially a voters' manual for the elections of 1896 that profiled the various candidates and political issues of the day: the Monroe Doctrine, free silver, the gold standard, the Cuban problem, protectionism, free trade, labor, etc.
