This two volume history of the company was published on the occasion of the company's centennial. Includes black-and-white reproductions of title pages for many important Norstedt & Söner publications. Title pages printed in black and red. Top of volume one's front cover is faded. Lower corners bumped and chipped on volume two. Spines show minor soiling. Some foxing in both; bookplates on front paste-down endpapers.

This publication--issued in commemoration of the hundredth anniversary of the Danish Royal Library being declared a free and public institution--focuses on the Danish physician Johan Rode (1587-1659), who had studied at Marburg and had become professor of botany and director of the botanical gardens at Padua. The introduction includes King Christian's 1788 instructions (in German) to the head librarian. The rest of the book contains a scholarly essay about Rode written by Christian Bruun (illustrated with a portrait and a woodcut facsimile of Rode's autograph) and reprints the text of letters from Rode to Laurids Scavenius, Otto Sperling, Jan Antonides vander Linden, and others. Overall a lovely copy. Printed on a special filagreed watermarked paper for etching using the acquatinta process and hand presses, with Manzu's drawings printed as a type of lithography. Accompanying the illustrations are texts by Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and Mikael Gorbachev, Mother Teresa and many others.

Spine of price-clipped jacket faded, with crude tape repairs at spine ends, else a near fine copy. A survey of Anthony Wood's collection of broadside ballads which are now at the Bodley Library. This collections consists of 279 separate broadsides which are scattered through eight volumes, which Wood poorly arranged and poorly preserved. Wood's collection is small in bulk but it is one of the most valuable and interesting of them all. Approximately 210 of the ballads are unique and is from the most picturesque period in the history of ballad, between 1660 and 1675. Illustrated and indexed.
