Prague: Antonín Víte, 1906. Original cardboard cover with embossed pale blue cover title and textile hasps. First and only edition of this visually charming, yet as regards the story also pertinently disturbing bibliophile edition, with 33 full-paged illustrations after indian ink or pencil drawings by Czech symbolist painter and printmaker Emil Holárek (1867-1919) after a fairy tale by Jaroslav Kvapil. The story is about a nymphet, who wears herself out between various institutions of state and society and the wickedness of their protagonists, finally ending up as a supposed culprit on the scaffold. The reproductions of Holáreks drawings are skilfully arranged by the Prague based printmaker Antonín Vítek by contrasting them with a ochre surface and ornamental frames and elegantly printed on cream machine-mould paper. Rare lithographie coloriée à la main - montrant des acteurs sur une scène en masques et costumes. Sur une banderole brandie, il est écrit : Toujours du paté d'anguille. Internally without inscriptions or other marks. Slight spine lean.255 x 195 mm (10 x 7¾ inches). A substantial work, which includes over 200 line drawings, 96 monochrome photographs, maps, appendix, list of abbreviations and a good sized index. Dr. Anne Ross has wide experience of living in Celtic-speaking communities where she has traced vernacular tradition. Using archaeological and anthropoligical evidence, as well as folklore, Dr. Ross provides broad insight into the early Celtic world.

Complete with 20 full pages fine engravings my Minartz (including two frontis illustrations). Some booksellers count the title vignette as a 21st engraving. Scarce in the original soft covers. Covers have some darkening and marking to them but with no chips or tears. Internally, the work is in excellent condition. A beautiful work, redolent of the Art Nouveau of Paris at the turn of the century. Albert Flament (1877-1956), was a novelist, traveller and journalist. He signed his pieces of "L'Echo de Paris" with the pseudonym Sparklet. London: G.P. Putnam's , 1912. Scarce First Edition in dust wrapper. Signed to the front end paper by the author, and dated April 1914. Olive green wrapper with coloured vignette to the front of the wrapper, adverts for Putnam fiction to the rear. The author's first novel. Wrapper is clean, but with a little chipping to the edges, and with a touch of loss to the head and tail of the spine. The boards of the book are spotless, with just a touch of bumping to the edges. Internally clean and tidy, with a little foxing to the end papers. 376, iv pages. 190 by 130 mm (7½ by 5 inches).

Zutphen: Gaillarde Pers / De Walburg Pers, 1972. Bound in Japanese style in textured Haruku paper covers, tied with yellow thread. 14 lovely original wood engravings printed on Sekishu Shi paper, with accompanying poetry in Dutch on yellow Kyoto paper. The woodcuts and poems are all depictions of mythical creatures; from mermaid to giant, and minotaur to chimera. Limited, numbered and signed by Rueter to the colophon. This is # 61 of 100. 220 x 155 mm (8¾ x 6 inches). The Haruka covers are foxed and delicate to edges. The thread holding the pages together is loose at the top. Inside there is minimal foxing, and then confined to page edges. The second publication by the Gaillarde Pers.

Düsseldorf: Künstler-Verein Malkasten, 1855. An attractive theatre poster, advertising a performance of Pannemann's Traum, starring Oswald Achenbach. A nice clean poster, in the style of Gustave Dóre. laid onto a backing sheet which is fractionally larger than the poster. The backing card has a little nicking to the edges, and marking to the rear. Overall, an excellent copy. 390 by 290mm (15¼ by 11½ inches). First Edition of this scarce poster. There are no other copies available to purchase at the time of cataloguing .
