Pagany was a literary journal that ran for a short time (12 issues). This vol. includes pieces by Erskine Caldwell, Gertrude Stein, William Carlos Williams, Ezra Pound. Also artwork by Virgil Thomson and Margaret Leighton. Little known but made its mark in literary history. Condition is good. Binding is tight, paper cover only slightly soiled and darkened at very top. Original subscription price was $2/hr or 50c a copy!

It's a "great little book" about France and the French people. When this book first appeared (on the day Paris fell to the Germans), it was hailed for its celebration of the "unconquerable French spirit." With illustrated dust jacket, including flaps and original price of $1.75.

Description:
This drama by poet Robert Browning is a mix of poetry and prose, first published in 1841 as the first of a series in his Bells and Pomegranates series, then republished in 1849. This later edition is enhanced with illustrations by L. Leslie Brooke. Brooke was a leading oil painter and book illustrator of the time. The drama initially caused controversy because of its portrayal of "disreputable characters" but gained popularity and was described as "perhaps the most beautiful of Browning's dramas.
Condition is very good, in that binding is clean, stamping bright, spine good, and text without markings. Some of the engravings have tissue protections. All are clear and unmarked. Front endpaper has faint writing of prior owner's name. Endpapers and some pages have light foxing.

This heavily illustrated, lush presentation of the second and third parts of Dante's Divine Comedy (Inferno being the first) has illustrations and designl by M. Gustave Dore. Translation by Rev. Henry Francis Cary, with accompanying notes. There are 60 illustrations. Page edges are gilt. Condition: Front board has some damage to the art--looks like wear. The edges of the boards are worn, with small tears. Binding is tight and very good except for front endpapers, which are loose and have prior owner's name, and with inscription as gift from brothers, June 5/1889. Otherwise, no marks, with overall very good condition.
