Fold marks, slightly age-toned, small hole, and 1 " chip from unsealing affecting a few words, but overall a very good letter, written in a legible hand.A historically interesting California Gold Rush-era original autograph manuscript letter written by a pioneer gold prospector of Sacramento to his father, William W. Parrott, in Massachusetts. Brown ink on laid paper, docketed in a different hand in the end of the letter. Both letters with fold marks, second letter slightly stained on the last blank page, otherwise a very good pair. Portraits: stipple engraved book plates, ca. 14x12 cm (from the European Magazine, London, 1821) and ca. 7,5x6 cm (by J. Limbird). The rest of the photos are ca. 6x8 cm (2 ¼ x 3 ¼ in) or slightly smaller. Four large photos are captioned in negative; all but two photos with period ink captions in French on the mounts. Recently matted and overall very good watercolour.Little is known about the artist however from a photograph and watercolour of the clipper Sobraon found in the collection with this watercolour, one can assume that they were created on a voyage from the United Kingdom to Australia.
