A good copy of this privately printed collection of essays.James Hurd Keeling (1832 - 1909) was born in Malta, the son of the Rev John Keeling, a well-known Wesleyan minister. On the outbreak of the Crimean War in 1854 he went out as Surgeon to the second regiment of the Turkish contingent. In 1860 he became Lecturer on Medical Jurisprudence at the Sheffield Medical School, beginning a teaching career that would last nearly forty years.
