The New Review. June [1897]. (25 x 32 cm). Original lithograph, title in red over with "JUNE. PRICE 1/-" in red to top right corner of image. Promotional print issued by The New Review to advertise Nicholson's portrait of Queen Victoria as issued with the journal. As well as folded and inserted in to the journal readers could also purchase the portrait as a hand coloured wood block print mounted on card for 2 guineas. The New Review was a literary review, which at the time, was edited by W.E. Henley. Henley was responsible for publishing important work by Hardy, Kipling, Stevenson, Yeats, James and H.G. Wells among many others.

[London]: War Office, 1957.. 2 maps (62 x 72.5 cm) printed recto verso in colour on one single sheet of rayon (artificial silk), marked "Restricted " in red. Published by the War Office in 1957, the present map shows large swathes of what are now the United Arab Emirates, on a scale of 1:1,000,000. To the recto is a map entitled ?'Hofuf', which shows the Persian Gulf, Qatar Peninsula, Bahrain Island, part of the north-eastern coast of Saudi Arabia and a small part of Oman. To the verso, is a map entitled ?'Bandar Abbas', showing the Persian Gulf, the Straights of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman and bordering countries. Both maps had first been produced by the War Office in 1945, and were revised only slightly for use here. Some light trivial fraying and small fold mark to upper margin not affecting map, generally an excellent copy. Unobtrusive publisher's blindstamp to top right corner. Some light spotting, else very good. The Description de l'Égypte was the first scientific survey of all Egypt, from its antiquities to its agriculture including language, music, costume, and natural history, and it concludes with a detailed and accurate map of the region. The numerous plates depicting the antiquities provide a comprehensive record of the richness of ancient Egyptian culture. At the time of publication, the Description de l'Égypte was the largest printed work ever produced. Handsomely bound by Riviere in half red morocco over red cloth, sides gilt ruled, gilt lettering to spine, marbled endpapers. Engraved title page and 7 full page hand-coloured engraved plates. Slightly rubbed at corners and head and tail of spine, generally very clean and fresh, all plates excellent, generally very good.

The true first hardcover edition of this title, preceded by a paperback edition in the Penguin Modern Classics series, which did not include the introduction. Contains all of Fleming's nine original James Bond short stories and novellas, previously issued in hardback as as For Your Eyes Only (1960, five stories) and Octopussy (1966, two stories). Two of the titles have never been included in a UK hardcover edition. With original outline colour. Old ownership sticker of General Fuller, R.E. to verso. Generally a very good copy.

Large original colour-printed pictorial plan of Edinburgh (101 x 64 cm) with buildings drawn in profile, embellished with Edinburgh's coat of arms at top and decorative cartouche and vignettes at bottom. Mounted onto linen. Minor marginal nicks not affecting map, generally an excellent example. "Devised and drawn by Kerry Lee for the Travel Association of Great Britain and N. Ireland and the Scottish Tourist Board".

Vues d'optiques, or perspective view prints, were a fashionable entertainment in the elite drawing rooms of the eighteenth century, and also a popular street entertainment at fairs and markets. Publishing houses in London, Paris, Augsburg, and Bassano competed in their production. In total about 5,000 vues d'optiques were produced.

Folds between red cloth boards. Publisher's label to upper cover, publisher's advertisements to inside of upper cover and folded end section. Spine sunned, a little soiled on verso, with some spotting showing on recto particularly at the top left and bottom right corners. Else good.

Gift inscription dated Christmas 1984 to f.f.e.p. in blue ink. An excellent copy. First published in 1981. Sir Christian John Storey Bonington is a British mountaineer. His career has included nineteen expeditions to the Himalayas, including four to Mount Everest.
