Very good in the edge curled otherwise good dust jacket. Inscribed by the Colonel Commandant of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery on front free endpaper. The volume containing specifications of the work to be undertaken, manuscript notes, calculations and specifications and also, on stout paper, many fine large folding drawings in pen & ink and watercolour of the W. door of South School, Brompton Barracks, a drainage system, a floor design, house design, a hutment scheme, and a steel bridge design, etc. Many marked with the examiner’s notes and comments in red ink. Folio, contemporary full blue morocco lettered in gilt on upper cover, “Fowke Medal 1910. R. E. 2nd Lieutenant J.W.J. Raikes R.E.” The Fowke medal awarded to the top student of the Clerk of Works course. Francis Fowke (1823-1865) the architect of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and a Captain in the Corps of Royal Engineers.

York: Printed by and for A, Bartholoman [1803 ]. 8vo (7 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches), 242-pages. Nicely bound 20th Century calf-backed marbled boards with lettering piece. Slight scuff mark to spine else a very nice copy both in binding and internally. Pick's racing calendars are uncommon.

7 of the photographs show events at St. Anselms School Sports Day and 15 at Radnor House School. Disbound, 1 leaf detached. Very good.

Original blindstamped green cloth; backstrip faded to brown, tiny cuts to headbands which are bumped. Cracking at inner gutter but very firm; overall good. Bookplate. The last 15-pages are partly illustrated advertisements for local businesses.

Contemporary full purple calf, decorative gilt rule to sides enclosing a panel of 4 gilt rules with corner ornaments. Spines gilt extra in 3 compartments and with black lettering and numbering pieces, all edges marbled. In remarkably fine condition. Contemporary prize inscription on front flyleaf.

Original green bevelled cloth pictorially blocked in black and lettered in gilt, top edge gilt. Name on the foxed half-title. Small old price sticker on front pastedown. A superb bright copy.

With a hand-written postcard (plain and unaddressed) from the author, signed, loosely inserted.
