(i.e. 212). Red cardboard in Bradel style, title and tomaison label in green morocco (binding of the period). First Edition printed in Blois of this "medieval novel" set in the region of Le Mans and Touraine. It tells the story of Rose de Connival, a young aristocrat living during the reign of Charles VII and whose virtues are summed up in the last sentence of the work: 'Righteousness is better than merry-go-round, and simplicity of heart than finesse of mind'. This is followed by a separate title page and a biographical note on Agnès Sorel (1409-1450), the famous mistress of Charles VII who served as a model for the heroine of the story and who, along with Joan of Arc, is one of the most edifying female figures of the French Middle Ages.
