Description:
A book of war poetry by Canadian soldier William Quintard Ketchum and dedicated to his cousin, James Carleton Ketchum, a member of the 23rd Battery, 8th Howitzer Brigade, C.F.A., who was killed at the Battle of Vimy Ridge. This small volume nevertheless is filled with powerful poems expressing the soldier's experience and thoughts throughout the First World War. This volume is also inscribed by the author, and includes a Preface by Stephen Leacock.
This copy is unfortunately in very poor condition. The front cover is missing completely, and while the back cover is present, it is entirely unattached. Despite this, the contents of the book itself are entirely present and legible, and the state of the cover by no means detracts from the the force of the war poetry contained within its pages.

Description:
Rif by Dorota Flatau (1874-1947) tells the story of a young English boy who is relived of the tedium of his restrictive upper class English life by a fairy named Rif, with whom he goes on adventures in a magical land. This world is brought to life by beautiful colour plates and black and white illustrations by Constance E. Rowlands.
This copy is in fair condition. There is significant foxing to the end papers and the title page, as well as to the edges of the pages. There is some foxing to internal pages, but it is not significant, and does not seem to compromise the integrity of the text or illustrations.
There is wear to fabric covering the boards, especially to the top and bottom of the spine and the edges. There is also staining to the back cover.
The gilt title and image on the front is faded, and that on the spine has darkened.
There is staining to the end papers, and the hinges are slightly cracked.
There is also a hand written note on the fly leaf.

Description:
Ralph Connor is the pseudonym of Charles William Gordon (1860-1937), a significant figure in the history of Canadian literature. He is notable as being Canada's first best-selling author, achieving great success with his novels set on the frontiers. Having become a Presbyterian Minister, he was the chaplain for the 43rd Cameron Highlanders during the First World War, and would go on to become the senior Protestant chaplain for the entire Canadian Forces. He was also integral to the creation of the United Church of Canada. Connor's religious beliefs greatly informed his writing.
The Rock and the River: A Romance of Quebec differs from his earlier works in terms of subject matter and is an example of his forays into historical fiction. The novel is set during the War of 1812 and gives an account of the conflict from the perspective of Lower Canada. This volume may be described as being in Very Good condition, and it retains the dust jacket which is in Fair condition, with wear to the edges and spine.… Read More

Description:
A.M. Klein (1909-1972) was a major Canadian poet and an important figure in the Jewish-Canadian community. He was a member of the Montreal Group of modernist poets who were inspired by the works of W.H. Auden, T.S. Eliot, and Ezra Pound. In addition, much of his poetry was informed by his experiences as a Jewish Canadian.
The Rocking Chair was his last work of poetry, and was something of a departure in terms of subject matter, focussing primarily on the themes of French Canada. It was one of his most notable works and considered by many to be his best.
This copy appears to be an advance review copy as it comes with a request from The Ryerson Press for reviews of the work. This volume is in Very Good condition, with some staining to the cover and the front and back paste downs and flyleaves. The dust jacket is present and also in Very Good condition with some age-related discolouration.
