Finland: United Artists, 1954. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. An original Finnish A2-sized cinema poster for the Korean War film, Sabre Jet, starring Robert Stack. The film was first screened in Finland in 1954 with no further theatrical releases. This poster is not a re-issue or a modern reproduction and nor is it Video/DVD-related. The "small" standard vintage Finnish film poster is the most common and collected version and approximates in size to the German or Hungarian A2. Sizes do vary very slightly depending on the printers involved and the era. Stylistically, vintage Finnish movie posters rarely reproduce the same art-work from the original studios' publicity material. Older films were usually re-named in Finnish (and Swedish below) but nearly always referenced the original title of the movie somewhere in the presentation. In red cloth with handsome gilt decorations to the upper cover and backstrip, illustrated endpapers and pastedowns. The book appears not to have been read. Minor handling marks aside, the slipcase is also in Fine condition.

SIGNED at the title page without dedication. A reasonably tight, square copy, the boards are clean, minor pushing to the spine tips. Text-block a trifle tanned, perhaps. pp.431, illustrated with photographs. The dustjacket is unclipped but shelf-worn at the edges and corners and there is a small ugly mark at the front flap which appears to be label-residue. Good condition dustjacket overall. Surprisingly uncommon signed.

Finland: United Artists, 1959. 1st Edition . No Binding. Very Good. A super cinema-used Finnish A2 POSTER for the 1959 movie, SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL starring James Cagney & Don Murray. ' The film was first screened in cinemas in Finland in 1959 with no subsequent theatrical screenings. This particular poster was printed by Piirtopaino Oy and is a standard size 23.5" x 15.75" approx. It is in Very Good used condition - pinholes at corners, original fold-line visible. There are handling creases but no loss of paper, and no nicks or tears to the edges. As usual the Finns have done their own thing with the layout and design but the graphics are superb. Artist signature in the plate. A very nice example of vintage movie advertising art and design.

A wonderful refashioning of the dramas as stories which remain true to the original spirit of the plays. Exquisitely illustrated by Michael Foreman who has SIGNED the title page. Corners of the lower cover bumped, spine tips pushed a little but a lovely copy of a great book.

A lovely square, tight binding which is pushed/bumped at the spine tips. The block remains fresh and is free from previous owner names etc. Very nice indeed, Fine or very near it. The dustjacket bears the publisher's price-clip with their new price of £6.95 at the front flap. Rubbed at the corners with tiny loss and creased at the spine tips with a tiny laminate chip and nick at the crown. Presents reasonably well, however, and a VG dustjacket. Loosely inserted into the book a small, plain white card which has been hand-signed in black ink by Bernard Cornwell - ideal size for mounting.

The film's only release in Finland was in 1958. This particular poster is a standard size 60cm x 40cm approx, printed by Salonen Oy. It is in superb, Fine condition - unfolded but with pinholes at the corners. The paper is quite thin so although there no nicks or tears to the edges there a couple of handling creases. These will resolve on their own in time. Fully illustrated in colour (artist name in the plate). A lovely poster.
