CBEL, III, 237. Uncommon in trade.Long poem based on border scenes and tradition, (common in the work of Sir Walter Scott) with explicative notes after the poem. Leyden wore many hats, among them being a preacher, linguist, orientalist. He contributed to Monk Lewis's "Tales Of Wonder", 1801, and assisted Sir Walter Scott with the early volumes of "Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border", 1802. During an expedition to Java, Leyden was stricken with malaria and died three days' later.

Neat bookplate, otherwise a fine copy in attractive binding by Root. This copy has been rebound in full calf, a.e.g. by Root, preserving the original cloth bound in at the end of the book.
