Printed by Charles Wyman, London. 1886-1892. 3 volumes.. pp. 72; 72; 62. 4 colour-printed plates and many line illustrations in text in the 1886 and 1887 issues, 7 plates [4 tinted and 3 in colour, 1 double-page] and many text illustrations in the 1892 issue. Original decorative wrappers, occasional little tear in the edge, staples rusting, otherwise in excellent condition. *FRANCIS CARRUTHERS GOULD [1844-1925], satirist and political cartoonist, began his working life in a bank, moved to the London Stock Exchange but started to contribute regularly to TRUTH in 1879. All the coloured plates in the above are by him, also many of the text illustrations, some of which are printed in colours. The entire text of these periodicals is written in doggerel verse.

Pavia. 1794. Elephant folio. 10, of 14, plates only.. Comprising 7 outline plates and 3 fully engraved plates, lacking the full plates numbers 1 to 4. All plates engraved by FAUSTINO ANDERLONI. The outline plates are on heavy paper, SHEET SIZE : 62.5 X 47 cms. The full plates have been cropped to within the plate mark for tab. 5 and short of the plate marks for tabs. 6 and 7. All plates are foxed and spotted, the outline plates have an old and faded damp-mark in the top gutter corner, the full plate for image 5 is torn in the lower left corner with a very small bit of loss affecting the image and has two adhesion spots in the left border with tiny bits of loss not affecting the image. The plates are sewn together in a dismantled atlas, condition as above. Publisher's blue cloth of the series - Nash's Famous Fiction Library, now faded, spine ends rubbed, signature of R[ICHARD?] GARNETT on the front free end-paper, else a very good copy. *RICHARD GARNETT (27 February 1835 13 April 1906) scholar, librarian, biographer and poet. He was son of Richard Garnett, an author, philologist (historical linguist) and assistant keeper of printed books in the British Museum. He entered the British Museum in 1851 (the year following his father's death) as an assistant librarian. In 1875, he became superintendent of the Reading Room, in 1881, editor of the General Catalogue of Printed Books, and in 1890 until his retirement in 1899, Keeper of Printed Books.
