The composer, Rochus Dedler (1779-1822), is best known today for the music used in the annual performances of the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. Hartzell Spence is famous both as the author of One Foot In Heaven, the basis of the movie by the same name, and as the founder of Yank magazine, which originated the use of the term "pin-up." In this novel, he presents the adventures of the Spanish explorer Don Francisco Orellana, who discovered the headwaters of the Amazon in 1541. Book is in Near Fine Condition: corners slightly bumped. Printed on the reverse: "OV62 Davis." Text: "To my Valentine! Howja like to toast your toes through the years-to-be, sitting by love's fireside -- warming up to me?" Undated; appears to be from the 1920s. In Fine Condition: clean and crisp.

This novel was one of the last things Marryat wrote and was published after his death in 1848. It was his only novel featuring a female main character. In Very Good- Condition: edges slightly rubbed; spine lightly creased; slightly creased at lower corner of Vanguard From Alpha cover; slight loss at upper corner of Vanguard From Alpha cover and first few leaves; pages are clean. As is typical of inexpensively produced pulp fiction of the period, it should be handled with care. Opening of the book could cause the glue to crack and pages to detach.

Contains an aerial view of the ironworks with inset illustrations showing sections of the house front department and the machine shop, as well as several close-ups of machinery. Also shows a steam locomotive on the train tracks running in front of the ironworks. The ironworks was located on W. North Street in York. The company was founded in 1840 by Elisha Geiger and Samuel Bechtol; other partners during the 19th century included Alexander Small, Edward G. Smyser, and Smyser's sons. "E.G. Smyser" appears over the central door in the print, with "Variety Iron Works" above that. In 1877 it opened an office in Baltimore where much of the ornamental ironwork was sold. Describes 9 deeds from 1635 to 1732, involving John Springett (the elder and the younger); Thomas Sands and his wife, Anne, daughter of John Springett; Clement Read; Thomas Cayle; John Hooper; Richard Rabson; Richard Couthman; and Joseph Hubbard. One engraved revenue stamp on exterior with "G" and "R" on either side of a crown and "30" in the upper right-hand corner. In Good Condition: loss along several folds (minor except for one instance with partial loss of several words); loss along lower edge without impact on text; exterior is soiled; text is clean.

1811. Near Fine -. 1 handwritten vellum deed (45 x 83 cm.) dated 2 April 1811. Rudolph Stauffer and his wife, Beata Reiner Stauffer, sell to John Price, storekeeper, 103 acres in Coventry Township, Chester Co., Pa., for 1,800 pounds "lawful money of Pennsylvania." Recorded 3 Feb. 1812 by recorder Charles Kenny. Signed by witnesses George Prise and David Kinehart, justice of the peace for Chester County John Hiester, Jr., recorder Charles Kenny, and Rudolph Stauffer and Beata Stauffer (Rudolph's name is in German script, while Beata's is not). In Near Fine- Condition: light soiling and discoloration; otherwise, clean and bright. An attractive early 19th-century vellum deed.

With an ebossed grey-and-gilt one shilling stamp affixed to one side and an engraved stamp on the reverse; and the signature of Christopher Gullett at the lower edge with a red seal.
