Description:
The intent of this is to relate the background and the frontier experiences of the Wendish colony established in Texas in 1854 which, according to the knowledge and belief of the writer, is the only Wendish colony established in Texas and in North America. Other Wends came over with German colonists to parts of the United States and Canada, but not as a colonial group. In presenting the story of these pioneers, the writer has endeavored to give a brief sketch of the Wends' Slavic ancestry to answer the questions frequently asked, "Who are the Wends?" and "Where did they come from?"
The Wends never had a nation of their own. They emigrated to this country from Germany. They came from the Lusatias, located on the Spree River, which today have diminished to a mere geographical expression.

Description:
"What's In A Name?" is an interesting trip to more than 330 West Texas towns, conducted by a native writer, for a factual account of how these towns got their names. In addition, there is a preservation of more than 250 postmarks, as refreshing a sight as visiting the "Old Home Town" or getting a letter from it postmarked "Spur," "Muleshoe," or what hove you. All this, is prefaced with 53 short stories that serve up accounts about the most unusual town names, from the Panhandle of Texas to the Big Bend, including the South Plains and "Caprock Country," as far east as Wichita Falls and Mineral Wells; and other name oddities either of people, places or things.
