London: Field & Tuer, Ye Leadenhalle Presse…New York: Scribner & Welford… [n.d.] The text was edited by Evelyn Forsyth from a manuscript produced by Griffith Boan in Carlisle, Cumbria, in 1512. Description:
London: Printed for presentation to the members of the Roxburghe Club, 1986 One of a small edition printed for members of The Roxburghe Club. This copy was reserved for member Anthony Hobson, and his name is highlighted in red on the membership list. Quarter burgundy morocco over burgundy cloth boards, gilt spine. . Folio. Title in black and red. A complete facsimile of the manuscript in monochrome, except for a few particularly decorative leaves, which are reproduced in full color or partial color. A fine copy. Presented to members of the Roxburghe Club by the Marquis of Normanby. Normanby notes in his preface that the scholars who have contributed to this book have not reached a definite conclusion about the source of this manuscript, though it seems most probable that it came from one of the two great monasteries in Canterbury. If this is so, it is likely that Wulfstan, Archbishop of York from 1002, acquired it when he went to Canterbury for the consecration of Aethelnoth in 1020. Wulfstan died… Read More

Description:
Hartford: Belknap and Hamersley, 1837 Second edition. First published in 1834. Contemporary floral patterned brown cloth titled in gilt. . Twelvemo. Spot of staining to cloth. Foxing to leaves. A good copy of an uncommon book. "The object of the author is, to enter into the minute details of the Nurse's duty to the Infant, during the first month of its life. In his own practice, he has often seriously felt the inconvenience of the want of information, in this respect, on the part of the Nurse; and it was this which chiefly induced him to prepare these pages" (preface). The present work details the "qualifications necessary to constitute a good Nurse," "conduct of the Nurse in the sick room," "duties of the nurse during labor," and instructs nurses and mothers in a range of infant care topics from proper feeding and clothing to common ailments. It also contains information on pregnancy and postpartum care for mothers, including illnesses experienced after birth and their remedies. Dr. Richard Sharp… Read More

[New York: The American Social Hygiene Association,] 1941 First edition under this title. The content of the work was first published under the title Sex Problems and Advice from the Private Papers of Mrs. Jardine McCree in 1938. Publisher's printed paper wrappers with a woman's portrait to front cover. . Quarto. Vignettes, diagrams of reproductive organs, and photo reproductions throughout. Some toning to back cover and margins. A very good copy of this rare sex education manual. Jardine McCree was a Los Angeles-based health educator whose lectures accompanied the exploitation films of the 1920s and 30s. Her name was likely assumed to protect her identity, as exploitation films were age-restricted and separated from mainstream Hollywood entertainment for their suggestive content. In his book on the history of exploitation films, Eric Schaefer writes, "At some point during the show…the lecturer would address the audience on the subject of the film…Lecturers were often given phony credentials or… Read More

Description:
Philadelphia: American Sunday School Union, [n.d., ca. 1828] Early edition. The earliest copy noted by OCLC apparently has 1828 on the title-page, and this copy can't have been published much later. OCLC also only lists copies that claim to be revised, as ours does. A scarce book regardless, as OCLC lists only thirteen physical copies of any edition. We could find no indication of who the author is. Quarter red roan over marbled boards, gilt-lettered spine. Twelvemo. Engraved frontispiece. Binding extremities a bit worn and rubbed. Lacking blank preliminary and terminal leaves. Very light foxing, the occasional minor stain. A very good copy of a rare, fragile book. The present work consists of four dialogues, each between two characters, that wish to instill morality in young readers by addressing the following topics: keeping good company, reading, the Bible, on collecting donations for church, rising early, regular and punctual attendance at Sunday school, animal cruelty (dog fights, cock fighting,… Read More
