University of California Press, 1943. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/good. Unmarked text. Unclipped dust jacket Stickers of two previous owners inside cover. One is from Dr. Charles Singer (1876 -1960), a British historian of science, technology, and medicine. The other is Melvin Edward Jahn (1938-2003) a paleontology. Like Herbert McLean Evans, Jahn was a great Berkeley scientific book collector. It is said that Jahn's san serif "Ex Libris" book label was inspired by Evans's more elaborate bookplate. Herbert M. Evans was the discoverer of Vitamin E. This edition includes a bibliography of his work. Forty-eight essays. Contributors include Frederick M. Allen, T. L. Althausen, Walter C. Alvarez, S. J. Crowe, C. H. Danforth, A. W. Meyer, K. F. Meyer, I. Maclaren Thompson and others. 688p. Illustrated with BW in-text and tipped in plates. Back end page paper worn at hinge.
