Reprint of a work first published in 1858 consisting of color reproductions of title page and 40 scenes of Virginia from the period featuring natural wonders, Virginia springs, and railroads. Portfolio of plates housed in a red clamshell box. The complete set of plates accompanied by a booklet describing the scenes portrayed in each plate. This set also includes an enlarged copy of the double page map found in the booklet. Many of Beyer's original tinted lithographs hang at the Homestead in Hot Springs. Plates measure 12" x17" though image is smaller. Copies of the original work are rare.
