About This Item

San Diego / New York / London: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1991. Very good plus.. First edition of these collected tales of Hamilton's beloved trickster character, Jahdu. Early in her career, Hamilton released her first Jahdu book, THE TIME-AGO TALES OF JAHDU to much acclaim; over the years, she added more stories about her trickster, many of which are collected here with new illustrations by Barry Moser. Of the first group included here, THE NEW YORK TIMES noted, "the four stories are nothing less than a history of the black man's changing role in American society" (Dorothy M. Broderick, 12 October 1969). A nostalgic combination of the mythic and the contemporary, gorgeously illustrated. 10'' x 7.75''. Original black cloth spine, orange paper boards, metallic orange-lettered spine. In original price-clipped color pictorial dust jacket with illustration by Moser. Brown endpapers. Illustrated by Moser in color throughout, with many full-page images. 108, [2] pages. Faint bit of toning to top margin of text block; jacket with a hint of soiling, minimal wear.
