About This Item
Garden City NY: Doubleday, Doran and Company, Inc.. Near Fine in Very Good- dj. 1944. Later Printing. Hardcover. [minimal wear to book, teensy bump to bottom rear corner; jacket is edgeworn, with about 1/4" paper loss at top of spine, minor chipping to base of spine]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper: "To Lum[?] Sandoz -- / With the author's / best wishes. / Eric Johnston / Dec. 16 - 1944." The then-president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce "cogently states his case for a people's capitalism with the emphasis on rugged individualism, private enterprise, and the competitive spirit." Two years after the publication of this book, he would leave the C. of C. post to become the successor to Will Hays as the head of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors Association (the name of which he immediately changed to the Motion Picture Association of America), in which capacity, under pressure from HUAC, he acquiesced to the creation of the Hollywood blacklist. He remained as head of the MPAA until his death in 1963. Signed by Author .

About ReadInk
Now in our 24th year of on-line bookselling, ReadInk offers an eclectic selection of quality books in a variety of subject areas. We are dedicated to the first-class treatment of every book we sell and its new owner (our customer). All orders and inquiries receive our prompt, personal attention. Our grading of a book's condition is conservative ("Fine" is our highest grade, and used sparingly); all significant flaws are described, but we will be happy to provide additional information and/or a scanned image upon request. Your book will be shipped promptly, well-wrapped and securely packaged; the dust jacket, if any, will be enclosed in a new Brodart cover.
