About This Item

New York: Random House, 1949. Very good in original dust jacket.. First edition, first printing of this early Seuss tale of sticky precipitation and the importance of saying you're sorry - winner of a 1950 Caldecott Honor. BARTHOLOMEW AND THE OOBLECK sees the return of the titular hero of THE 500 HATS OF BARTHOLOMEW CUBBINS, this time tasked with saving the kingdom from a sticky green substance. The science-class favorite non-Newtonian fluid made from water and corn starch takes its name from the disruptive precipitation in this title. 12'' x 9''. Original color pictorial boards. Original price-clipped color pictorial dust jacket. Green and black pictorial endpapers of oobleck falling on heads. Illustrated in green and black. [24] leaves. Gift inscription to front flyleaf dated June 1956. Tiny drawing of a girl in a dress to rear flap of jacket. Jacket with various edgewear including shallow creasing and closed tears, two large chips. Binding with some edgewear and careful color in-fills, endpapers with light toning. Leaves with scattered soil to margins. A solid copy.

Synopsis

Bartholomew and the Oobleck is a 1949 book by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel). It follows the adventures of a young boy named Bartholomew, who must rescue his kingdom from a sticky substance called oobleck. The book is a sequel of sorts to The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. Unlike most of Geisel's books, which are written in anapestic tetrameter, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, like its predecessor, is a prose work.
