Original Publisher's full vellum, with gilt decoration and lettering, very good with minimal wear, slight rubbing to edges, vellum has developed a slight patina, ribbon ties missing. Original decorated endpapers, top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Contents clean and tight, no inscriptions, paper slightly toned, all plates and tissue guards in very good condition without creases or folds; uncut edges a little dust soiled, paper crisp and appears unread. A very good copy of this superb limited edition..

Revelation was written at the height of Christians prosecution by the Romans and the book as inspired many past literary masterpieces by the likes of Dante and Milton. For this edition the great American artist Allan Rohan Crite was inspired to produce fifteen relief engravings for possibly the ultimate illustrated edition of the book of Revelations. Revelations passionately speak against the power of evil and encourage Christians to resist even at the cost of martyrdom. Many critics considers this to be Crite's finest religious work. One volume (16 x 22 inches) Relief engravings were printed on Japanese paper and mounted on heavy paper handmade in Pescia Italy. In original publishers Red cloth covers with beautiful bright Gilt ornate decoration on fronts. The gilt decoration on spines is mostly faded. All page edges Gilt. Endpapers illustrated with a lovely deep yellow Peacock design. B&W Illustrations. Frontis illustrations all protected by tissue guards. Pride and Prejudice illustrated by Charles E. Brock and the other 4 volumes illustrated by Hugh Thomson.
First published betwen 1895 and 1897, Northanger Abbey is dated 1897 and the other 4 are 1898 reprints.
Spine colour faded. Some nicks and a littyle fraying at spine ends. Previous owner's inscription, dated 1899, on ffeps. and penciled bookseller note on back of ffep in Sense and Sensibility. No other inscriptions. Interesting newspaper cuttings from 1917 & 1918 on fly leaves of 2 volumes.

Illustrated with 21 color plates, including 1 not in the trade edition, and several black and white devices, printed on hand-made paper. Copy #227 of 260 (of a total of 520) of the English issue SIGNED by the illustrator on the limitation page.

Illustrated with a colour frontis and forty nine full colour plates, all mounted onto thick art paper pages at back of book, each one with a printed tissue guard. Decorative endpapers with map of Kensington Gardens. A near fine, bright and clean copy throughout in original russet cloth binding with gilt stamped decoration and lettering to front board and spine. Very minor rubbing to hinges and a small bump to the lower front board at the outer corner, but overall a beautiful clean copy of this classic. Among the very best of Rackham's work.

Calvert's rarest print album

Very rare plate album by Irish landscape painter Frederick Calvert, complete with 24 "picturesque views" and in the original binding. Calvert moved to England in 1815 and, besides painting, produced a number of print albums and model books, a.o. The young artist's instructor (London, Hodgson and Co., 1823) and Rural scenery (London, Hodgson and Co., ca. 1825). He designed plates for Picturesque views ... in Staffordshire and Shropshire (Birmingham, William Emans, 1830-1831), and for A new and compendious history, of the county of Warwick (Birmingham, William Emans, 1830). Perhaps his most famous work was for The Isle of Wight illustrated (1846).
