About This Item

Woonsocket, RI: American Wringer Company, 1923. First Edition. Wraps. Very Good. First Edition. 48 pages. 10 3/8 x 7 3/8 inches. Printed decorative wrappers. Errata tipped in page 26. Small paper label on front wrapper, rear cover creased, several small tears. Laid in are price lists and accompanying letters from Sept 1st 1925 and (with price reductions) January 10, 1927. The ephemera is creased vertically for mailing. Wraps. A scarce catalog, with Harvard showing Catalog No 10 and a few pieces of ephemera but nothing else on OCLC/Worldcat. We are aware of one other example (Cat #9) in the trade.

Well illustrated, with toned decorated page borders and black and white half tone images of the company's products in the centers. Clearly targeted towards young women.

"The American Wringer Company was incorporated under Rhode Island laws in 1891, a consolidation of the Empire Wringer Co., New York; the Metropolitan Mfg. Co., New York; the F. F. Adams Co., Pennsylvania; and the Bailey Wringing Machine Co., Rhode Island. The company manufactured clothes wringers, rubber rolls, mangles, etc. Its factories were located at Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and Auburn, New York." (Harvard Scientific Instrument Collection which holds an example of one of the company's clothes wringers).
