Includes An Extempore upon a Faggot, here attributed probably erroneously to Milton. Previous owner's name on the flyleaf, old stain to upper edge of the first few leaves, two old mends to two of the leaves. Text block is mostly clean with light toning. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. An attractive copy of this charming book.

In a very good dust jacket with a couple short closed tears, and some droplet stains to the rear panel. This copy SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Gluck on the leaf opposite the half-title to fellow author and literary critic David Madden: "For David, with warm wishes. Louise Gluck." Madden's ownership signature appears on the front free endpaper, as does the previous owner, fellow North Carolina poet and author [Katherine] "Bonnie" Soniat. Gluck's second book is scarce in the first printing, especially signed, and particularly in the time since Gluck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2020.
