About This Item

New York: Applause, 1993. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. First Printing. Fine in fine dust jacket. Hardcover. 565 pp. Illustrations. New York City theater critic Howard Kissel offers this biography of famed American theatrical producer David Merrick (1911-2000). No other producer, not even Ziegfeld or the Shuberts, equalled his percentage of hits or his demonic flair for publicity. He captured as much newsprint for his own persona as for his plays and hadmuch-publicized battles with such major stars as Streisand, Merman, Woody Allen, Jackie Gleason, Lean Horne, Carol Channing and others; he produced some of the greatest shows ever presented in cluding Gypsy, Irma La Douce, Hello, Dolly!, Catus Flower, 42nd Street, Look Back In Anger, etc.
