About This Item

New York: Hippocrene Books, 1988. Reprint. Printed wrappers. Near Fine. 8vo. Pp. xv, 235. Appendix. Bibliography. Index. Bound in printed wraps. Inscribed by "the author" on half-tile to Dr. & Mrs John Philip Sauntry "with profound appreciation of their qualities," dated 1992. Includes two items of ephemera inserted within: an October 15, 1992 newspaper clipping with headline "Russia gives U.S. KAL 747 secrets: Papers on 1940 massacre handed to Poland" and a typewritten list of reviews Death in the Forest. Dr John Sauntry served as Northwest Hospital's Chief of Surgery. Zawodny, too resided in Washington State - Brush Prairie, down by the Columbia River - until his death in 2012. The list of reviews of the title at-hand appears to be his compilation, featuring his name and address as letterhead.

The Katyn Forest Massacre refers to the Stalin-directed execution of some 14,000 Polish officers during WWII. This copy, with related ephemera and inscription, is eminently presentable.
