Previous owner's 1978 inscription to half-title, 'Good Students / are rare gifts'.. 8vo. 5.75 x 8.5 in. xvi, 102, [2 blanks] pp. Full blue cloth, titled in silver on spine, in dark purple dust jacket printed in red. Containing a foreword by RPW, along with two essays, 'America and the Dimished Self' and 'Poetry and Selfhood', followed by notes. Dedicated to Andrew Nelson Lytle and the memory of Edna Barker Lytle. Jefferson Lecture in the Humanities, 1974. A very nice copy, signed by Robert Penn Warren on the front free endpaper.
