Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout, moderate at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Plates are bright and clear. Minor pencil marking to front free end-paper. Cracking to hinges, no damage to end papers. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Sunning to spine. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains.

Minor foxing and tanning to pages and plates. Noticeably heavier and more prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Very subtle cracking to gutters but binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has slightly heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Cunninghame Graham (1852-1936) moved to Argentina as a young man to make his fortune cattle-ranching. He was affectionately known as "Don Roberto," a great adventurer and gaucho. Later he traveled to Morocco as a Turkish sheik, prospected for gold in Spain, befriended Buffalo Bill, and taught fencing in Mexico City. By the early 1880s he returned to his native Scotland, where he became a radical socialist, journalist, and prolific author. ***

In midnight blue/black boards with bright, unblemished gilt lettering to the spine, and a bright gilt 'motif' to the front board. In the original publisher's black/red lettered dustjacket which is complete, with a little closed chipping to the head of the spine, but is very sunned (the cream colour has 'tanned') to the spine and edges - but all titling/lettering, etc, is Very Clear.
