Michael Quinn / Signature Books bookplate laid in. In this impressive study of the "elder statesman," as reporters labeled Clark, Quinn considers what it meant for a Latter-day Saint to attain such national and international stature. J. Reuben Clark (1871-1961) was an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as a prominent attorney and dedicated civil servant (In 1930 Clark was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Mexico) He was a member of the First Presidency for nearly thirty years.
