New York: Warner Books, 1990. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Fine/fine. First edition of Fighting for Peace: Seven Critical Years in the Pentagon by Caspar W. Weinberger, inscribed to Ambassador Joseph V. Reed, Jr.. Octavo, xiv, 464pp. Blue hardcover, title stamped in gilt on spine. Appears unread. First edition statement on copyright page, with full number line. In the publisher's fine dust jacket, retail price on front flap. Inscribed on the title page: "For Joe Reed - with my best wishes + my great appreciation for all your fine help + your great contribution to the U.S. / Casp." Amb. Joseph Reed served as the United States Ambassador to Morocco (1981-1985) and Chief of Protocol of the United States (1989-1991). Caspar Weinberger (1917-2006) served as the Secretary of Defense in the Reagan administration from 1981-1987. His tenure ended with the Iran-Contra Affair in 1987, but he was pardoned by President Bush and never convicted of any crimes. He died in 2006.
