This has become a modern classic - a story that touches the soul of modern living. Becoming a very rare book.
Reviews:
A moving story. I read this book many years ago, and was touched by it. I bought it for my children to read at some point; for me, it is a book to retain, not lend carelessly...
This is a book that needs time to read it; it takes a while to get into the story which is interspersed with chapters reflecting on various events of the second world war, above all the psychology of those living in Germany. Thirty years ago this might have just seemed an interesting historical take on events using the love story as a device to illustrate the issues raised. Reading it now, it is rather chilling.
