The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear. The dust jacket has modest shelf handling and is no in a clear Mylar protective sleeve. 12.25 inches tall; 248 pages with a Bibliography, check list of books written and illustrated by Pyle and an Index. Illustrated with 39 color and 165 blanch/white illustrations. Introduction by Rowland Elzea. . Howard Pyle (1853 -1911) was an American illustrator and author, primarily of books for young people. A native of Wilmington, Delaware, he spent the last year of his life in Florence, Italy.

He founded his own school of art and illustration, named the Howard Pyle School of Illustration Art. The scholar Henry C. Pitz later used the term Brandywine School for the illustration artists and Wyeth family artists of the Brandywine region, several of whom had studied with Pyle.
