Hardcover. 0394800818 . ; This is a First Edition, Second Printing (1950) indicated by the title list on the back cover with the latest title listed being 'Bartholomew and the Oobleck', which was published in 1949. Seuss published 'Yertle the Turtle' in 1950 also, but it is not listed on the back of this book, indicating this copy of 'If I Ran the Zoo' is an early 1950 printing. Copyright page has 8 lines of text (the first printing had only 7). Pictorial cover is worn through at the corners and spine caps with a 1" tear to the top of the spine strip and overall wear but clean and bright. Boards and spine are straight. Binding is tight. Pages have just a couple very faint finger smudges but overall clean and in very good condition. ; 64 pages .
Synopsis
If I Ran the Zoo is a children's book written by Dr. Seuss in 1950. The book is written in anapestic tetrameter, Seuss's usual verse type, and illustrated in Seuss's trademark pen and ink style. The book is likely a tribute to a child's imagination, because it ends with a reminder that all of the extraordinary creatures exist only in McGrew's head.
