About This Item
London: Faber & Faber, 1961. First edition, first printing. This is a very good copy. The dust wrapper is beautifully illustrated by Edward Bawden and has not been price clipped (18s net). There is a major tear to the spine and some moderate wear to the spine tips. There is also some red marking to the rear panel. There is some minor wear to the publishers cloth at the spine tips, and some light bumping to the corners. The text blocks are mostly bright and clean, with no notable foxing. The authors signature is signed to the front fly leaf in black ink: 'Yours sincerely Alfred Duggan'. This copy, overall, is in very good condition and wildly scarce signed.
As the Vikings invade ninth-century England, only Alfred the Great, King of the West Saxons, takes a stand in this epic novel of medieval warfare.
